I want to tell you right now that saving your home from Foreclosure is definitely something that you want to do, whether or not you continue living there. From a credit stand point a foreclosure will haunt you for a very, very long time. Did you know that one of the questions on an application for a mortgage asks you if you have ever had a home Foreclosed on? It doesn’t say in the last year, three years, five, or even ten years. The question asks, have you ever! So for the rest of your life you will have to say "YES!"
So, do you want to stop the foreclosure? Of course you do. There is a very big difference between defaulting (a default usually occurs when payments on a loan are 90 days behind) loan/mortgage and having your home foreclosed on, which means the home was either sold at Auction or taken back by the Bank/Lender. (Find out Foreclosure Process by State HERE). A Default can be just a small blemish on your credit history that will soon clear. A Foreclosure is much more damaging.
So let’s clarify something here. Some of you may be in default, or soon will be in default, on a property that you simply can’t afford. By this I mean that even if you successfully stop the Foreclosure process, you still can’t afford the house. You have found out that the payments are just too high. If you could do it all over again, (be offered a mulligan), maybe you would have bought a less expensive property, or gone with different financing. It’s not like you would be the first person that bit off more than they could chew.
